Pep Guardiola has been manager of Manchester City since 2016, presiding over 305 matches, but he could be on the move when his contract expires in 2023. The 50-year-old intends to take a break at the end of next season and the Daily Mail believe Brendan Rodgers is ‘in the frame’ to replace him.
Rodgers left Celtic to join Leicester City in February 2019 and has seen over 122 matches with the Foxes. The 48-year-old has led Leicester to 9th in 2018/19, 5th in 2019/20 and 5th in 2020/21, so he’s done a fine job in two-and-a-half years.
Newcastle United have recently been taken over by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media and want Rodgers to replace Steve Bruce, but the Daily Mail says he’s instead holding out for Man City.
The Sky Blues have won three Premier League titles in the last four seasons while consistently finishing in the top-four since 2010, so Rodgers would inherit a stellar club to work with if he did make the switch.
Man City are currently third in the Premier League with 14 points from seven games this season too, so they look set for a strong title defence.
