You won’t believe it. Guess who has done it again? Yes, that’s right, Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has just scored another goal for his country.
The man who can’t hit a barn door with a banjo for his club side is something of a goal machine for the Black Stars. In 33 appearances he’s now scored 12 goals. No, he doesn’t have a namesake.
Mikel Arteta may very well have a Willian moment when the Ghanaian finally scores for the Gunners. Those who remember the Brazilian’s wonderful free-kick against West Brom will also remember the manager’s hilarious response.
It wasn’t one of jubilation. He three his hands up as if to say ‘where the **** was that in the previous 36 matches’, in quite humorous fashion.

And if Partey ever does find the back of the net for Arsenal, which seems incredible to think given how dreadful his shooting is in red and white, it might licit a similar response. This is the fourth time he’s captained his country and he’s scored in all four. Go figure.
Watching him for Ghana, he’s a changed man. Fresh from a goal all of his own creation against Zimbabwe in which he robbed possession, drove into the box and sat an opponent on his backside before rifling an effort in at the near post, he’s gone and done it again. This time from a free-kick, which you can see on FIFA TV’s YouTube page here.
Supporters may remember the first match of pre-season where Partey was desperately unlucky not to find the net from a free-kick against Hibernian. There was no misfortune on this one as it sailed past the Zimbabwe goalkeeper (they played them again).
Well, it did sail past him, but the goalkeeping in question was particularly hopeless. Still, it’s another goal for the 28-year-old who clearly needs to play all his club matches on the continent of Africa.
Yet, we say that, but his record everywhere else is distinctly better than his one for Arsenal: he averages better than a goal every three matches for Ghana, a goal every nine matches for Atletico and one every seven matches for Mallorca and Almeria. He’s played 38 matches for Arsenal without scoring.
What is wrong with this club?
Jokes aside, it’s fantastic for him to be finding this level of form after a poor showing at Brighton, regardless of the opposition. Now, Thomas, please just bring that back to the Emirates with Patrick Vieira watching on. Thanks.
