Luis Alberto makes Liverpool claim

Former Liverpool midfieler Luis Alberto has opened up on his time at Anfield, claiming he is glad he moved on when he did.

Now at Lazio, the Spaniard has been a success in Serie A since leaving the Reds and has established himself as a go-to option.

His nine Premier League appearances during the 2013/14 season all arrived after coming on as a substitute as a result, making it difficult for Alberto to have a substantial impact.

The following two seasons saw the 29-year-old loaned to Malaga and Deportivo before the Reds made a small loss by offloading the Sevilla academy graduate to Lazio, for a fee believed to be £3.4million.

Looking back on his time at Liverpool, he said: “When such a team calls you, you can’t say no.

“In a short time, I had gone from the Spanish second division to a team that could win the Premier, with players like Gerrard, Suarez or Sturridge.

“I had moved on to a completely different football; I realised that beyond the technical quality, I had to raise the level of many other things.” Alberto told Rivista Undici, relayed by Okcalciomercato.

“Of course, it’s true: it would certainly have gone differently if they had called me at another time, but there are those who throw away fifteen years of their career; after all I have only wasted a couple of years.”
