According to a report from Catalan news outlet El Nacional, Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is fed up with manager Ronald Koeman and is contemplating leaving the club at the end of the season.

The Spanish international, 33, joined Barcelona’s youth ranks in 2005, and after impressing in the academy, he was promoted to the B team two years later. Since making his first-team debut in the 2008/09 season, the defensive midfielder has enjoyed an illustrious career with the Catalan giants, racking up a staggering 638 appearances across all competitions.

Sergio Busquets, who is tied to a contract until the summer of 2023, however, has grown increasingly exasperated with Barcelona’s struggles under Ronald Koeman and now is planning to end his 16-year stay with the Catalan club.

This has alerted Manchester City, with the English champions ready to offer the Busquets a two+ two contract. The midfielder could play at the Etihad Stadium for the first two years before spending the next couple of seasons in the United States with New York City FC, El Nacional reports.

The Sky Blues’ midfield department is well stocked which makes one wonder why they would be interested in signing Busquets. Rodri, having arrived from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019, has proven to be a smart player at the base of the Manchester City midfield. He is 25 and still has a long way to go in his career.

Perhaps Pep Guardiola is planning to replace Fernandinho in his squad next year when the veteran Brazilian’s contract expires. Busquets would be the perfect like-for-like Fernandinho replacement in this Manchester City squad.

Busquets showed flashes of his old self operating in a deeper role for Luis Enrique’s Spain in Euro 2020 and could enjoy a new lease of life under Guardiola at City. Guardiola knows the Spaniard in and out having managed him before, and in return, the Barcelona star could come in and make an immediate impact in the blue half of Manchester.

However, it remains to be seen whether Busquets would be open to accepting the Cityzens’ aforementioned contract proposal.
