Anthony Elanga has hinted that a loan move away from Man United could be on the cards.
On the last day of the 2020/21 season, Anthony Elanga announced himself to Manchester United fans all over the world. The young Swede would score his first Red Devils goal with a brilliant header against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The talented winger looked impressive during his handful of first-team appearances, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once again putting massive trust in the next generation.
However, we’re yet to see Elanga in 2021/22. Be it due to minor injury issues, or the signing of Jadon Sancho, the United academy prospect has fallen down the pecking order through no fault of his own.
Sadly in football, that’s just the way it goes sometimes. However, the 19-year-old still obviously has time on his side so they’ll be no panic setting in just yet.
The United starlet, who is on the fringes of the first-team has since hinted that a loan move away could happen. He was asked about that prospect recently:
Elgna told Expressen: “Everything is possible but right now I am in United so I focus on them. But anything is possible and I have to be ready if the club wants to lend me or wants me to stay.”
At this point, it does make sense. There’s no benefit for Elanga just playing U23 level football as he’s already learned all he can from that level. If United aren’t going to play him anytime soon, then a January loan move away makes all the sense in the world.
Be it to a Championship side, a Premier League club or even abroad, Elanga has to be playing regular minutes at the first-team level in order to build up that experience and match knowhow.
I’m sure they’ll be plenty of clubs willing to give Elanga that chance that his talents would merit. Then, the Swede could come back to Manchester next summer in an even better place both mentally and physically.
For me, it’s just a waiting game for Elanga. He’s going to be on the fringes until Cristiano Ronaldo moves on. When that happens, I’d imagine he’ll be first in line for that spot within the squad.
