Antonio Rudiger is undoubtedly one of the most important players for Chelsea at the moment. The German, along with Thiago Silva, has created an unbreakable defense that leaves attackers intimidated and frustrated. The Blues had a huge defensive problem in the Frank Lampard managerial era however, with the introduction of Thomas Tuchel, Rudiger has been reinstated into the team and he has shown signs of brilliance ever since.
The German who is now in his late twenties knows that his new contract might be his last big contract with a big team. He is in no rush to sign a deal as he knows Chelsea is desperate to keep him and with pressure from different top clubs from around the world, he knows that the Blues will offer him a much better deal. Teams such as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich are very interested in the player and the German is flattered by all the recognition.
Several European elite teams are interested in Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger.
Rudiger was considered a failed Roma transfer until the arrival of Tuchel. There were talks of sending the German to Barcelona on a potential loan plus full transfer however, those rumors were put to bed when Tuchel started to select him again. Maybe it was the German connection, or maybe it was a sudden change of attitude but Rudiger started to perform like a stallion. He went from the benches to the heart of the defense and he played every game like it was the last one.
The now 28-year-old defender was a key part of Chelsea’s amazing Champions League victory over the Sky Blues. He was determined to make a difference and who can forget his match-winning tackle to block Phil Foden’s shot? Yes, he quickly asserted himself as one of the best defenders in the world and proved all the critics wrong.
However, now it is time to make his biggest decision yet, stay with the Champions of Europe or finish his career in a different stadium. While Madrid will attempt to sign the big defender using their status and power, PSG will make an offer that might be too irresistible. However, as of now the only club that has caught Rudiger’s eyes is Bayern Munich. He said that he is honored to be linked with Bayern and that does seem like a red flag for Chelsea fans.
In the end, he did mention that he still has his duties for his current team and that he is quite comfortable with his teammates and coach. Thus, a change might not be necessary at all. We will have to wait and see how much the London side is willing to offer him and whether it will be enough to keep him in England. The Blues must hold onto this robust and talented defender and losing him for free next year might be an even bigger loss.
