Marcus Rashford has made an ideal return – following months out with injury.
Manchester United fans, heck, even the wider footballing community view Marcus Rashford as an icon. The Englishman has played a massive part in not only football, but feeding young children during this awful pandemic.
The Red Devils number ten showed a compassion beyond his years before jetting off to EURO 2020 to represent his beloved Three Lions. Sadly, he’d miss an all-important penalty in the final of that tournament. That is the last time we’ve seen Rashford in a competitive fixture.
That’s because the forward had been dealing with numerous injuries. Problems with which Rashford tried to manage as he so desperately wanted to play for England over the summer.
In July, those issues were addressed as Rashford went under the knife to undergo shoulder surgery.
Well, I’m pleased to report that the United star has today made the perfect return to action – scoring twice during his first game in three months. That’s according to Laurie Whitwell.
With Rashford, I genuinely believe it’s a case of you don’t know what you had until it’s gone. It’s very easy to forget that this young man contributed to over thirty goals for his club last term – and we’ve been dearly missing that output at the start of this campaign.
The 23-year-old is amongst the best in the world at his position, and although having Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo has masked his absence somewhat, it’s obviously a far better situation for the manager when Rashford is fit.
Obviously, this is just the start for Rashford and the road back to full fitness is a supremely long one. it’s going to take time, patience and hard work for the attacker to get back to full fitness.
Be that via a few more behind closed doors games, or playing for the u23 side, we have to give Rashford all the time he needs until he’s fully fit.
The worst thing United could do is throw him into the fire too early, only for Rashford to re-injure the affected area(s) and losing him for an even longer period.
Perhaps he could be back amongst the subs in a few weeks, but I don’t see him starting games until November – and that’s absolutely the right call.
Either way, it’s brilliant to see Rashford back out there on the field.
