Dean Henderson has admitted it has been a tough few months, though his best is still to come.

Manchester United’s start to the season can only be described as mixed. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils have shown glimpses of their quality, while also proving they can be inconsistent too.

David de Gea has probably been our top performer, with his return to form a particularly pleasing sight. However, as the term goes on, I don’t doubt that Dean Henderson will push the Spaniard hard.

Preparation for 2021/22 for Henderson has been less than ideal. He picked up an injury over the summer, then suffered a pretty serious bout of Covid-19. That all-but ended his pre-season regime and he’s now miles off the pace in terms of fitness and match sharpness.

However, our Englishman isn’t letting that bog him down. Instead, he’s remaining positive. The United star is now hopeful he’ll get an opportunity and become ‘the best’ we’ve seen him in a United shirt. I definitely don’t doubt him in the slightest.

Check out what Dean Henderson had to say here:

“It’s been a tough few months for me but to come back in now, amongst it and feeling [at] full power is a great feeling,” he told MUTV’s Stewart Gardner, per

“It [the illness] obviously stopped me at the start of the season and I was unfortunate I got ill but, at the end of the day, you’ve got to take it on the chin and come back better than ever. I feel really good now and just want to get out there and prove my worth.

“I haven’t been my best in the Manchester United shirt yet. I feel good, really good, now and it’s about building those games up, game after game, and hopefully I’ll get my opportunity and I’ll build on it and be the best you’ve seen me in a United shirt.”

For anyone who has been following us for a while, you’ll know I’ve been a massive advocate of Henderson getting his fair shot at the number one jersey.

Now I understand that De Gea’s insane start to the season has made it harder for Hendo, but the Englishman’s talent is there for all to see. He’s a top-quality performer who has all the makings of a long-term number one.

For this year, it’s probably about taking his minutes as they come and trying to impress the coaching staff. Whether or not Hendo will continue to remain patient for the full campaign remains to be seen, mind.

The other option is another loan move, though I’m not sure that’s in Hendo’s best interests. He just wants to be given a fair crack at the whip sooner rather than later.

Hopefully, that happens at some point this term.
