Gary Neville was full of praise for Jadon Sancho in the aftermath of Man United vs Everton.
Manchester United Football Club dropped more points at the weekend, drawing 1-1 with Everton, who were much-depleted due to injury on the day.
Those are the games Ole gunnar Solskjaer’s side simply has to win if we’re to challenge for major honours this term. There can no longer be excuses made for dropping those sort of points from winning positions at Old Trafford.
The game itself was a pretty poor one. Outside of a few half-chances, United didn’t really dominate like they should. However, the game swung in our favour in the last 20 minutes – following Jadon Sancho’s introduction.
Our Englishman looked as bright as ever during the substitute appearance, finally looking like the £73million addition we signed over the summer.
Now, club legend Gary Neville has admitted he was impressed with the 20-minute cameo from the United star vs Everton. He definitely looked sharp.
Check out what Neville had to say here:
“You come away from that game and everyone was disappointed, but I thought Jadon Sancho gave his best 20-minute performance in a Manchester United shirt,” Neville said, speaking on his Sky Sports podcast.
“I thought that was the one big positive from the match. Sancho got on the pitch after a difficult start and I think Man United fans are still working him out and still getting to know him, and he’s still working out Man United.”
“He’s a £70million signing but he’s been overtaken by [Raphael] Varane and [Cristiano] Ronaldo in terms of the publicity and furore. He’s almost slipped into the club and been a little anonymous in the first few weeks, he’s probably frustrated.
“But I thought he did really well after coming on yesterday [Saturday] and we saw glimpses of his ability, little passes with Ronaldo and stuff like that.
“So I think it’s worth mentioning that we saw a good little period from him and that was a positive.
“He will go into the international break with a little bit of confidence and it will send him off in a happier mood than if he hadn’t featured against Everton.”
It definitely was encouraging. Sancho has looked a little lost before this weekend. Whether it be a lack of match fitness, confidence, or maybe a little of both, he looked the shadow of the player we wanted to see.
However, there were some really bright moments against Everton. The intelligent run-making, the on-ball quality, the overall threat. Sancho looked bang up for it and perhaps the result may have been different if he’d have started.
Obviously, it’s always tough moving to a different environment and after the tough summer Sancho endured, it was always going to take a little time. That’s probably why Solskjaer has dipped Sancho in and out of the team as he sees fit. Maybe in the not too distant future he’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet week-in-week-out.
Hopefully, Sancho can get some minutes for the Three Lions over the summer and continue to grow in confidence, before coming back to United in a couple of weeks looking even hungrier than ever before.
