If you take a walk down Dale Street in Liverpool city centre you’ll find an art deco building that was hidden by the flyover for 50 years.
It had been hidden from view by the Churchill flyover since 1970, until the huge concrete structures were demolished in 2019.
The flyovers connected Lime Street to Dale Street and Tithebarn Street in the city – but in 2019 the city council began the hugely complex and disruptive task of pulling them down.
The demolition cost £6.75m and uncovered a corner of Liverpool that was partially tucked away for decades.
LCVS was founded in 1909, after the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, H Chaloner Dowdall, called a meeting with different charities across the city to discuss creating a body that would help them co-operate with one another and with public authorities.
Today the organisation provides support, training and advice to individuals and charities across the Liverpool City Region.
Photos taken in January last year after the flyover was demolished show the beautiful building and offer a glimpse of what it looks like inside.
