Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire have both emerged as injury problems for Man United.

Manchester United would succumb to a late defeat against Aston Villa yesterday. Edinson Cavani would lose his man at the front post, with Hause heading home to send Old Trafford into disappointment.

The game itself was a pretty poor one. United only carved out a few chances which, in this team, simply isn’t good enough. Our misery was compounded by a couple of injury issues, too.

In his post-match press conference, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would confirm two injuries; Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire. Both had to be subbed off due to their issues. Now, United are sweating on the fitness of the key duo ahead of our game vs Villareal on Wednesday.

Solskjaer sadly couldn’t offer much of an update as the injuries are still fresh:

“Sorry, I can’t give you any updates,” the boss told the media, including ManUtd.com.

“We will have to use today and tomorrow and Monday, or when we get the scans done, and see how they are.”

It goes without saying, these are two vital cogs of our defence and missing them for any prolonged period would be nothing short of disaster.

For Maguire, it looked like a leg problem while Shaw was grabbing at his ankle. The latter tried to play on but eventually had to be subbed off in the 35-minute.

United’s quick turnaround for the Villareal game this Wednesday leaves me doubtful that either of these boys will be ready to play – which is a massive blow.

Obviously, after losing last time out, this game pretty much becomes a must-win for Solskjaer and United. That task has been made all-the-harder as we’re without two vital faces.

Hopefully, the situations aren’t long-term. The last thing United need is to be missing either of these guys for a period of weeks. However, I do have faith in the likes of Victor Lindelof and Alex Telles to step in and do a reliable job as backups over a short timeframe.

Get well soon, lads!

Who would you like to see come into the team to replace these guys? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
