AS Roma fell to their second Serie A defeat of the season on Sunday as they were beaten 3-2 by Lazio.

Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was appointed head coach of Roma back in May and his side sit fourth in the table following the result.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic opened the scoring for Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico before Pedro scored his first goal for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Roger Ibanez pulled one back for Roma just before half-time but Lazio once again extended their lead through Felipe Anderson with just under 30 minutes left to play.

Mourinho’s side made it 3-2 shortly after as Jordan Veretout scored from the penalty spot, but they were unable to find an equaliser and Lazio took all three points from what was a feisty Derby della Capitale.

The Portuguese international hit out at officials after the game and felt Lucas Leiva should have received a second booking.

“Unfortunately, a fantastic game was ruined by the referee and VAR, who were not at the right level for this match,” Mourinho told DAZN .

“The second goal could’ve been 1-1, it went to 2-0. The [lack of a] second yellow for Lucas Leiva was important too. I think my team was the best on the field today.

“We dominated, we gave Lazio huge problems, they controlled the final minutes the way they wanted to, and because the referee allowed them to do so.”

The former Liverpool man received a yellow card after 24 minutes and was one of six players to be booked on the night.

Sarri opted to take Lucas off early in the second half as the 34-year-old made way for Danilo Cataldi on 61 minutes, shortly before Anderson scored Lazio’s third.

Lucas appeared to respond to Mourinho’s comments on social media, as he tweeted a series of crying emojis and three pears, to represent Lazio’s three goals.
