Barcelona beat Levante 3-0 at the Camp Nou on Sunday – their first win since August 28 – as Ansu Fati scored his first goal donning Lionel Messi’s iconic No.10 shirt.

Ronald Koeman has been under immense pressure and publicly pleaded for Barca fans’ patience last week.

“The club is with me in this period of reconstruction,” Koeman told a virtual news conference, reading from a statement.

“We have to reconstruct the team as a squad without making big investments and this takes time.

“The young talents we have can become world stars in a couple of years. The young players will have opportunities, just as Xavi and [Andrés] Iniesta had in their day, but we ask for patience.

“Finishing high in the table would be a success on its own and in the Champions League we cannot expect miracles. The defeat against Bayern should be taken with perspective. The team should be supported, with words and with actions.”

And one of the young players he referenced in that statement, Fati, scored the La Liga sides’ final goal of the game.

After Messi left the club to join PSG this summer, there were questions about who would be the one to wear the Argentine’s legendary No.10 shirt at Barca.

And that responsibility has fallen to Fati, who appears to be taking things in his stride, scoring in his first game wearing the No.10.

Koeman will also be pleased that two of his new signings, Memphis Depay and Luuk De Jong were on the scoresheet, helping Barca to all three points.

Depay signed on a free transfer from Lyon and has begun to fill the boots left by the likes of Messi and Antoine Griezmann, scoring three times in six games for the Spanish giants.

As for De Jong, he signed on loan from Sevilla and, after just four league goals last season, his signing came under scrutiny by fans of the club.

However, he opened his account for Koeman’s side, and the Dutch boss will be hoping that this is the start of their climb up the table.
